Résumé:

Growing up in the village of Idhar, Gurukant Desai was told, “Don’t dream. Dreams never come true,” by his father, the headmaster of the village school. Though he loved quiet, peaceful, green Idhar, he knew that his future lay beyond this village… and that he had to make his own destiny.

In 1958 he traveled to Bombay with two shirts and a wife who resented being forced into marriage. Determined to start a business, he found all doors were shut to him, because Indian businesses were run by a handful of the rich and privileged. Refusing to take no for an answer, he flirted with the law and the lawmakers in a struggle to make his way to the top.
