Audrey Tautou

Audrey Tautou Biography:

AUDREY TAUTOU

Date of Birth: August 9, 1976

Born in Beaumont, France, Audrey graduated from high school with honors. Although she majored in science and had an interest in becoming an anthropologist, she decided to enroll at the Cours Florent actors studio instead and work on a French literature degree.

She began her onscreen career in 1995, working in television. After four years, she made her feature film debut with a strong showing in Vénus beauté (institut). Her performance was impressive, garnering her a César award for Most Promising Young Actress in 2000.

Tautou worked very hard during the late '90s right into the early 21st century landing in such films as épouse-moi (2000), Le Libertin (2000), and her first lead role in the multi-award winning Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (2001). The latter film catapulted her into the spotlight, as the film received awards from film festivals around the world. She then played her first English-speaking role in Dirty Pretty Things (2002), playing a Turkish immigrant working illegally in London. Not long after, she reunited with her Amélie director, Jean-Pierre Jeunet for the French film Un long dimanche de fiançailles (2004).

In 2005, she was asked to do a screen test with Tom Hanks to play the starring role as Sophie in The Da Vinci Code (2006), but she didn't go, believing she was too young for the role. However, director Ron Howard was determined to have her play the part, and she finally accepted.
