Before starring in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, Elena Kampouris really did grow up in a big Greek family. She was born in New York City to antique wine store owner Alexander and fashion illustrator Ivey. Her father's origins are Greek, from the island of Kasos, while her mother is American with French ancestry.
Elena's acting career debuted 2012 with a guest appearance on Gossip Girl. In 2013 she starred in the Nickelodeon TV movie Jinxed. In that same year she got to star alongside Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin in Labor Day.
She also had the chance to spread her comedy wings in the Adam Sandler film The Cobbler in 2014. In 2015 she returned to television, starring in American Odyssey. Elena played the daughter of Peter Facinelli on the show.
Elena's big break came when she landed a role in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, playing the daughter of Ian (John Corbett) and Toula (Nia Vardalos). The role fit her like a glove, because Elena herself comes from a Greek family. "I've got my huge Greek family. I mean, I don't know how many cousins I have — I can't even keep track. There are just so many of us and we love all Greek food — we have Greek night every Sunday night," she told Teen Vogue.
Elena's latest credit is the mystery drama Before I Fall (2017) with Zoey Deutch and Jennifer Beals.
