After graduating within the top 10 of her class, she would later go on to attend Emory University's Goizueta Business School for Marketing and International Business in 2005.

To help pay her way through college, Fala took part in several pageants during her term breaks. Upon her graduation she immediately landed the role of Jolene on the HBO limited series The Undoing starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant.

Chen made her Hollywood feature film debut in Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021), playing Jiang Li, the mother of Shang-Chi. Next up, she played Iwi Queen in Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire (2024).
