Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan Biography:

Mohammed Aamir Hussain Khan is one of the biggest stars in India. His family was very involved in the Indian film scene, with his father, Tahir Hussain, and uncle, Nasir Hussain being movie producers. He has four younger siblings and is the uncle of Hindi actor Imran Khan.

His acting career began when he was a child. He appeared in his uncle’s film, Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973) at just eight years old. He recounts having a tough childhood, as his father’s films were not very successful, which created financial challenges.

When he was 16, Aamir helped a friend with a movie called Paranoia. It was kept a secret from his parents, who wanted him to stay away from the film scene and instead pursue a different career. He played the main character and the experience inspired him to go into acting.

He joined a theater group and performed in a few plays. After high school, he made the decision to work on film projects instead of continuing his education. Aamir acted in student movies produced by the Film and Television Institute of India and was eventually recognized by director Ketan Mehta. He offered Aamir a part in his film Holi (1984). From there, Aamir was given a main role in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988), where he took home a Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.

Aamir starred in the movie Dil (1990), directed by Indra Kumar. It was a big hit and was the highest-grossing Hindi movie of 1990. Although that year he acted in five movies, he slowed down and only worked in a couple a year moving forward. This was unconventional for such a big star.

He received a Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his work in Raja Hindustani (1996). His performance in the movie Lagaan (2001), which he produced as well as starred in, earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. He also won another Filmfare Award, once again for Best Actor.

In 1999, Aamir set up his own movie production company called Aamir Khan Productions. He took a break from acting for four years, returning to the screen in 2005.

Aamir made his directorial debut in 2007 with the film Taare Zameen Par (2007), which was produced under his company. It won various awards including Filmfare and Star Screen Awards.

He starred in the film 3 Idiots (2009), which became the highest-grossing Bollywood movie at the time. The film even found success in East Asia, nominated for a Japan Academy Film Prize, and in China it earned a nomination for Best Forgein Film at the Beijing International Film Festival.

In 2012, Aamir debuted with his own talk show, Satyamev Jayate, on which he would discuss important social issues. The show was translated in eight languages and had English subtitles. It was renewed for three seasons, ending in 2014. In the 2010s, Aamir acted in a string of successful movies including Talaash: The Answer Lies Within (2012), Dhoom 3 (2013), PK (2014), and Dangal (2016), which he also produced.

It was announced that Aamir would star in the Forrest Gump-inspired Laal Singh Chaddha (2022). Originally planned to be released in 2020, the film was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It finally received an August 2022 release date.

Aamir was married to Reena Dutta in 1986 and had a son, Junaid, and a daughter, Ira, together. In 2002, Aamir filed for divorce.

Aamir married Indian filmmaker Kiran Rao in 2005. The couple welcomed a son, Azad, through surrogacy in 2011. However, in 2021, Aamir and Kiran announced they were separating and would co-parent their son.
