Morten Tyldum Biography:
Date of Birth: 1967
Director Morten Tyldum was born in Norway. After high school he moved to New York to study at the School of Visual Arts. Upon completion of his third year, he returned to Norway to earn some money for his fourth year of school. He edited a pilot and sold some of his third year films to a TV station. Although he was planning to return to New York, he decided to quit school when he was asked to stay in Norway and direct a TV series.
In 1996 Morten made his first short film, Lorenzo. His first feature Buddy, earned him international recognition, winning awards at the Warsaw International Film Festival, the Norwegian International Film Festival and the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
Morten made another feature in Norwegian—Varg Veum - Falne engler (Fallen Angels)—that wound up on DVD, but when his third feature, Headhunters (2011), starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau who would soon become famous for his role on the HBO TV series Game of Thrones, received an international release, it went on to become the highest-grossing Norwegian film of all time. Morten was then given a chance to direct an English-language film, The Imitation Game (2014), starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley.
The Imitation Game won major awards at dozens of films festivals. Morten himself won Director of the Year from the Hollywood Film Awards and an Academy Award nomination in the Directing category for his work on the critically acclaimed film.
Morten is currently living in Los Angeles with his wife Janne and their son, but they still have a house in Norway.
