Synopsis

Director Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s first film outside of Japan is this French ghost romance fantasy. It follows a former fahion photographer and now aging daguerreotype photographer named Stephane, who works obsessively in the old 19th century photography technique, as it is said to give eternal after-life to the souls of the people whose pictures it captured. He has a young assistant named Jean, who is desperate for inspiration in his life. Jean falls for Marie, Stephane’s beautiful daughter and model, but after she takes a mysterious fall one evening, image and reality become much harder to decipher.
