The Death of My Two Fathers

Synopsis

It takes Sol Guy 20 years to watch the tapes his father recorded shortly before his death in 1998. They detail how a Black man from Kansas City, Missouri arrived in a small town in British Columbia, Canada, determined to make a better life for his new family.

The tapes prompt Sol to embark on his own journey to better understand the bi-racial family that raised him and his Black American roots as he confronts his father's choices and their impacts.

The tapes inspire Sol to reconnect with his estranged sister and the family his father left behind, forcing a re-examination of family and what it means to be Black in America.
