An hour-long dramatic television series about four women working in a Canadian munitions factory during World War II. Lorna Corbett (Meg Tilly), the Blue Shift floor matron, has a strained relationship with her husband. Gladys Witham (Jodi Balfour) is engaged and accepts another marriage proposal from a soldier and feels guilt about it, only to find out her fiancé has been cheating on her. Betty McRae (Ali Liebert) is from the prairies. She's a hard worker who is also the spokesmodel for the factory in a war campaign film. Kate Andrews (Charlotte Hegele) is a shy, naïve young woman on the run from her abusive, street-preacher father, but she slowly begins to break out of her shell and begins singing with a jazz band.
