A child prodigy and Edmonton native, James Carson was composing complete songs at the age of 4 (!), had his music performed by the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra at the age of 16, and was feted as one of his genre’s most gifted rising stars by the Edmonton Journal. After walking away from the conservatory as a renowned pianist, James backpacks overland from Spain to Japan. At the center of the story is the unusual off-grid cabin in the Alberta wilderness that James designs and builds by hand upon his return. It is here, away from everything, that a new form of music emerges.
A documentary told only in the way a true artist could make one, Cabin Music is a 74-minute piece of living art on the screen, as filmmaker, artist, and subject (all one and the same) combine forces for a film quite unlike any you’ve seen before.
On the eve of his special live performance at the Yardbird Suite on November 5th, NorthwestFest is thrilled to welcome James Carson ‘home’, for the Alberta premiere of his mesmerizing documentary film debut.
