Synopsis

Erica (Taylor Henderson) is an orphan, but she's determined not to be adopted and tries to make a terrible impression whenever people come to look for an orphan. Nonetheless, one day Bella Yaga (Vanessa Marshall) and a man named The Mandrake (Richard E. Grant) visit the orphanage in the British countryside and decide to adopt Erica.

When they reach Bella Yaga's home, the woman informs Erica that she is a witch, and she expects plenty of help from the girl, but warns her that under no condition is she ever to disturb The Mandrake. Thrilled about living with a witch, Erica asks Bella Yaga to teach her how to be a witch, too. The little girl quickly grows fond of the witch's black cat Thomas (Dan Stevens), especially when she discovers he can talk.

Based on the novel of the same name by Diana Wynne Jones.
