Synopsis

Based on the true story of the St. Patrick's Brigade, One Man's Hero is set during the Mexican-American War. Irish-American John Riley deserts his army unit after being denied permission to attend mass.

Swimming across the Rio Grande River into Mexico, Riley joins the Mexican army and leads a rogue unit of 200 men - largely men jailed by the U.S. Army for disobedience - into battle against the States.

Captured and court-martialed by the American military, Riley is horse-whipped and branded with a "D" on his face - forever marking him as a deserter.
