Synopsis

Scientists believe we have entered the sixth major extinction event in Earth's history and predict we could lose half the species on the planet by the end of this century. Evidence shows that mankind is behind this catastrophic loss and also that we are the only ones who can put a stop to it before it's too late.

Produced by the Oceanic Preservation Society, Racing Extinction brings a voice to the thousands of species that are in danger of becoming extinct in a short time. A team of activists sets out to expose what is endangering species across the globe. A big threat is the international trade of wildlife. Bogus markets are being created at the expense of innocent animals who have survived on this planet for millions of years before humans began slaughtering them for "fun" and/or their body parts.

The other threat is all around us, hiding in plain sight. There's a hidden world that the oil and gas companies don't want the rest of us to see. Director Louie Psihoyos wants to call attention to our impact on the planet, while inspiring others to embrace the solutions that will ensure survival on this planet for future generations.
