L’AFI choisit les 100 meilleures répliques de l’histoire du cinéma

L’American Film Institute a dévoilé hier soir (mardi) lors d’un spécial télé sa plus récente liste « Top 100 » pour célébrer les 100 ans du cinéma. Après les listes célébrant entre autres les 100 meilleurs films musicaux, à suspenses, les meilleures chansons et méchants du cinéma, l’AFI a établi son classement des 100 répliques les plus marquantes de l’histoire du cinéma américain.

Les phrases célèbres furent choisies par 1500 intervenants du monde du cinéma parmi une liste de 400 possibilités. Parmi les critères de sélection, la pénétration de cette citation dans la culture populaire ainsi que sa représentation de l’impact du film primaient.

Le grand gagnant est le « Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn » prononcé par Rhett Butler dans Autant en emporte le vent/Gone With the Wind. Marlon Brando fait bonne figure aux second et troisième rangs, avec notamment « I’m going to make him an offer he can’t refuse » tiré du film Le Parrain/The Godfather et « You don’t understand! I coulda had class. I coulda been a contender. I could’ve been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what I am. » tiré de Sur les quais/On The Waterfront de Elia Kazan.

Suivent en quatrième place la declaration de Judy Garland à son chien « Toto, I’ve got a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore » dans Le Magicien d’Oz/Wixard of Oz et « Here’s looking at you, kid » d’Humphrey Bogart dans Casablanca. D’ailleurs, pas moins de six répliques de Casablanca figurent au classement final, tandis que Autant en emporte le vent fournit trois répliques du top 100 au total.

La réplique la plus récente de la liste finale date de 2002 et ne vient pas vraiment d’un acteur mais d’une création numérique : « My precious » de Golum (Le Seigneur des Anneaux : Les Deux Tours se classe au 85e rang. Parmi les autres citations plus récentes notons « Show me the money! » de Cuba Gooding Junior dans Jerry Maguire de 1996 et « I’m king of the world! » tire de Titanic en 1997 au numéro 100.
