Synopsis

With her lover Marius at sea for the next five years, Fanny, a seafood seller at the market in the Old Port of Marseille, accepts, at her mother Honorine’s insistence, to marry Panisse, a rich widower. When the young woman discovers she is pregnant with Marius’ child, her fiancé agrees to recognize the unborn child as his own. But when Marius returns from his trip after only a year, he’s determined to take back his beloved and raise his infant son. Except that his father Caesar, as well as Panisse and Honorine, don’t see it that way. Caught between the two, Fanny must choose between her love for Marius and her affection for the dedicated and generous man who saved her from dishonor.
